Spot aromatics prices mostly down

In aromatics, January benzene on the US Gulf soared 36 cts/gal, but a settlement of that magnitude had been anticipated, players say. The news of the deal drove spot prices down a dime. Spot mixed xylenes were said to be higher by 10 cts/gal. In Europe, there was a much more modest increase of just €19/m.t. ($26) for the January contract, while styrene barges were settled at an increase of €35/m.t. Spot benzene was done higher by $20/m.t., while spot toluene zoomed $70/m.t. sources say.
