Spot aromatics prices mixed

Spot aromatics business was widely different on opposite sides of the Atlantic this week, with prices lower on the US Gulf and higher in Europe. Spot benzene on the US Gulf was off 5 cts/gal, while mixed xylenes dropped a dime, traders say. Styrene slumped 3 cts/lb. Business was brisk in Europe, however. Benzene and mixed xylenes climbed $20/m.t. while toluene was higher by $25/m.t., traders say. Only styrene was down by $20/m.t. In contrast to the standoff in European olefins, methanol producers in North America reduced contract prices to bring them closer...
