Mostly lower aromatics prices reported, especially in Europe

Spot benzene raced through a steep spike peaking at $5.35/gal before settling back about 20 cts/gal earlier this week. The net gain from the previous week was an average of 50 cts/gal in a wider trading band, players say. Mixed xylenes were repored down by 20 cts/gal, and styrene slumped 6 cts/lb. The pattern was similar in Europe, with benzene higher by $15/m.t., mixed xylenes off $50/m.t., and styrene stumbling by $110/m.t.
