Aromatics prices strong

Aromatics reported a strong week overall, with both spot benzene and toluene on the US Gulf rising 15 cts/gal. Mixed xylenes were said to be lower by 5 cts/gal, reflecting sharply lower markets for isomers. In Europe, spot bezene was reported to have gained $40/m.t., but toluene tumbled $30/m.t. Spot styrene rebounded $15/m.t., players say. Natural-gas supply problems in Trinidad, which some players say are becoming chronic, has tightened methanol spot markets in North America by 10 cts/gal. May contract discussions have not yet started, but some market watchers...
