Aromatics prices lower

Aromatics were generally weaker on both sides of the Atlantic, traders report. Spot benzene on the US Gulf was off 15 cts/gal, toluene was lower by 10 cts/gal, while mixed xylenes slumped 20 cts/gal—putting it well below the current contract level. The only gainer for the group was styrene, which gained 3 cts/lb. In Europe, benzene was the loss leader, tumbling $125/m.t. Spot toluene fell $50/m.t. As in North America, styrene bucked the trend with a gain—$20/m.t. Southern Chemical rolled its North American posting price for methanol into July. Sources...
