Aromatics Prices Sharply Higher on Gulf Coast Power Outage

Spot aromatics on the U.S. Gulf were tightened sharply by power outages to Texas City that took three refineries out of service. Benzene was higher by 10 cts/gal, while toluene rose double that and mixed xylenes split the difference with a spot gain of 15 cts/gal, market watchers report. Spot styrene was said to gain 3 cts/lb. In Europe spot benzene zoomed higher by $30/m.t. while toluene was said to be lower by $5/m.t.
