Benchmark benzene for August on the U.S. Gulf Coast rose a robust 30 cts/gal, while styrene tacked on 3 cts/lb, securing an increase driven by a rash of planned and unplanned outages. The timing was propitious for sellers, because soon after the contract was settled, Styrolution announced it was restarting its Texas City, TX, unit, stalling the rise is spot prices.
