Aromatics Prices Rise in Both U.S. and Europe

Aromatics markets were reported to be lively in the first week of 2012. Benchmark benzene on the U.S. Gulf Coast led the way, with producers achieving an increase of 70 cts/gal for the January contract. Spot material tacked on 10 cts/gal. There was less consensus in mixed xylenes trading, with sellers raising offers by 15 cts/gal, but buyers only willing to increase bids by 5 cts/gal.
