Spot benzene on the U.S. Gulf rose $20/m.t. but the big gainer for the group was spot toluene, higher by half a dollar in brisk trading, players say. Mixed xylenes, which had run ahead in previous weeks, were quiet. Attention was focused on developing changes in the mixed xylenes contract market. Spot styrene continued a strong run, gaining 3 cts/lb, as producers nominated an increase of 8 cts/lb for January.
