In aromatics, the effects of market tensions were more manifest in Europe than in North America. Spot benzene in Europe was higher by $20/m.t. but unchanged on the US Gulf, traders report. Toluene was higher by 10 cts/gal in the United States, while mixed xylenes bounced up 25 cts/gal and styrene tacked on 2 cts/lb. In Europe, toluene ticked higher by $10/m.t., while styrene spiked $160/m.t., some sources say. However, others called those levels speculative.
