Benzene on the US Gulf rose half a dollar—more than 11%—to a record high settlement for November, players say, but mixed xylenes plunged a third of a dollar on reports of softening downstream demand. In spot businesses, there was a similar pattern with benzene gaining 15 cts/gal, but toluene slipping 5 cts/gal and mixed xylenes lower by 15 cts/gal, traders report.
