Aromatics October contract prices increase

The reverse pattern of the lower olefins contract prices for October was reported in North American aromatics—with spot business lower but October contract levels higher. The settlement for benzene was higher by 20 cts/gal, which was a surprise to many market watchers. Styrene’s late-month settlement for September was higher by 4 cts/lb and widely anticipated given the spike in spot prices last month. In prompt business, benzene and toluene dropped a dime, while mixed xylenes were off by 5 cts/gal. Spot styrene was said to have decreased by 3 cts/lb...
