Lanxess Goes Beyond Compliance at Ohio Plant

Shortly after its 2004 carve out from Bayer, Lanxess suffered three different chemical releases at its Addyston, OH acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plant. The incidents were an obvious concern for Lanxess, but also drew public scrutiny, including the attention of Ohio Citizen Action (OCA; Cleveland), a statewide environmental group with 100,000 dues-paying members. OCA began an anti-pollution campaign against Lanxess, citing the high number of reported accidents at the plant, the high levels of emissions, the proximity of the plant to an elementary school...
