The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA; Helsinki), the body responsible for implementing the European Union’s (EU) Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach) law, could run out of money starting in 2011, says Geert Dancet, ECHA executive director. Dancet made the announcement to the European Parliament’s environment committee at a hearing last week. The projected shortfall is the result of chemical companies spending less money than anticipated on fees associated with Reach, Dancet says...
