50% of Firms ‘Not Prepared’ for Reach

About 50% of chemical companies “are not fully prepared” for the European Union’s (EU) Registration, Evaluation, and Authorisation of Chemicals (Reach) program, according to a recent survey by engineering and risk management firm BMT (London), which provides environmental services to the chemicals sector. Companies are required to pre-register all substances subject to Reach between June 1 and November 30, 2008, but BMT says that about half of them will not be ready to do so.
