Harvey-Jones: ‘A legend within ICI.’ John Harvey-Jones, former ICI chairman, died on January 10 at age 83, after a long illness. Harvey-Jones was chairman of ICI between 1982 and 1987. ICI became in 1984 the first British company to record more than £1 billion in full-year, pretax profits. Harvey-Jones was considered “a legend within ICI, and held in very high esteem by everyone in the company,” says John McAdam, CEO of ICI before its recent takeover by Akzo Nobel.
