Mosaic to end MOP production at New Mexico facility

Mosaic says it plans to discontinue production of muriate of potash (MOP) at its Carlsbad, NM facility. The final date of production is expected to be 31 December, according to regulatory filings. “The decision is based on the quality of the ore in the Carlsbad basin and the age of the facility's infrastructure,” the company says in the 23 July filing. “These combined factors make it difficult for the operations to remain competitive in an already challenging global market.
