Alcoa Cuts Production, Workforce

Alcoa (Pittsburgh) says it will curtail production and cut 13,500 jobs, about 13% of its global workforce, to save money and reduce costs amid the economic downturn. Smelting output will be reduced by 750,000 m.t./year, and alumina production will be reduced to a total of 1.5 million m.t./year in response to market conditions, Alcoa says.
