Shale gas in Europe: Commission recommends 'minimum principles'

The European Commission says it has "adopted a recommendation aimed at ensuring that proper environmental and climate safeguards are in place for fracking." The commission says that the recommendations should help those European member states wishing to use the technique to extract gas to "address health and environmental risks, to improve transparency for citizens, provide a level playing field for industry, and establish a clearer framework for investors."
