G8 Summit: Climate Change Is High on the Agenda

The G8 summit began today at Toyako, Japan and climate change is high on the meeting's agenda. The U.S. and several other developed nations are expected to announce plans at the meeting to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.   The European Union (EU) has set itself a goal to reduce emissions 20% by 2020 compared with 1990 levels. The EU wants the major polluting nations to reduce emissions by half by 2050, and European leaders attending the summit will push for broad acceptance of this target, reports say.
