EU climate and energy 2030: commission calls for 40% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, at least 27% energy to come from renewable sources

The European Commission has announced the framework on climate and energy for 2030 for the European Union. The framework includes "a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of 40% below the 1990 level, a binding target EU-wide for renewable energy of at least 27%, renewed ambitions for energy-efficiency policies, a new governance system, and a new set of indicators to ensure a secure and competitive energy system."
