Solvay Indupa Shuts São Paulo PE Unit

Solvay Indupa (Buenos Aires) says it has permanently closed its Brazilian polyethylene unit at Santo André, São Paulo state. The slurry, high density polyethylene (HDPE) unit has capacity of 82,000 m.t./year but had been reported operating a much lower rates, says Polyolefins Consulting (North Brunswick, NJ). Solvay Indupa closed the plant because it needs the ethylene supplied by Quattor to feed its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant expansion at Santo André. Solvay had increased PVC production from 245,000 m.t./year to 300,000 m.t./year...
