Senate Votes Down Attempt to Block Boiler MACT Rules

The U.S. Senate last week voted 52-46 to defeat an amendment that would have blocked EPA’s rules limiting air emissions from industrial boilers, a measure that had been backed by industry groups. Senator Susan Collins (R., ME) had attached the amendment to a transportation funding bill. The measure would have given industry at least five years to comply with any new rules and created certain stipulations regarding the content of those rules.
