New enzyme research could result in less expensive biofuels production

Five researchers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL; Washington) and a scientist from the Weizmann Institute of Israel (Rehovot, Israel) say they have discovered two approaches using catalytic performance that could render biofuels production from biomass less expensive. The research could contribute to achieving the objectives laid out in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 including the goal of producing 36 billion gallons/year of biofuel in the United States by 2022, where 21 billion gal/year would come from advanced biofuel...
