Nanoparticles for Generating Electricity from Waste

Scientists from Oregon State University (OSU; Corvallis, OR) have discovered a significant advance in the development of a system for generating electricity from biowaste. They discovered that a coating of iron or gold nanoparticles on anodes enables a 20-fold increase in electricity production.   The technology works by placing bacterial microbes from biowaste into an anode chamber and allowing them to reproduce and create a biofilm.
