Japan Inaugurates Cellulosic Bioethanol Demonstration Plant

An allinance between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Hakutsuru Sake Brewing Co., and Kansai Chemical Engineering Co., has completed construction of a cellulosic bioethanol plant at the Futami plant of MHI's Kobe shipyard machinery works in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan. The plant will produce ethanol for automobile fuel from soft cellulose vegetating in Hyogo. The project, an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, will use rice straw and wheat straw as feedstock and will be Japan's first biofuel production facility capable...
