Firms to Invest $4 Billion in Brazilian Ethanol by 2013

Several companies have recently announced investments totaling about $4 billion in sugar cane-to-ethanol ventures in Brazil, including a joint venture of Bunge and Itochu to spend $800 million on two plants. Itochu will invest to expand Bunge’s mill at Santa Juliana in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state from 1.6 million m.t./year, to 4.2 million m.t./year by 2011, the companies say.
