Dow Links with Brazilian Ethanol Maker for PE Project

Dow Chemical and Crystalsev (São Paulo), one of Brazil’s largest ethanol producers, have formed a joint venture to build a world-scale facility to produce polyethylene (PE) from sugar cane-based ethanol. The plant, which is expected to start production in 2011, will produce 350,000-m.t./year of linear low-density PE (LLDPE) resin. The companies have not yet selected a site but say they will locate the plant in a “sustainable environment.” Financial details were not disclosed.
