Clariant, Haltermann cooperate on second-generation bioethanol

Clariant and Haltermann (Hamburg) have joined forces in a second-generation biofuel initiative, Clariant has announced. Clariant's sunliquid-registered process converts wheat straw into cellulosic ethanol. The process is in operation at Clariant’s demonstration plant located at Straubing, Germany, where approximately 4,500 m.t./year of agricultural residues such as grain, straw, or corn stover are converted into cellulosic ethanol, the company says.
