BASF Introduces Novel HPCA Monomer (update)

BASF has begun producing hydroxypropyl carbamate acrylate (HPCA), a crosslinking acrylate monomer, using a proprietary one step enzymatic fermentation process. The HPCA is generated by the enzymatic transesterification of hydroxypropyl carbamate and ethyl acrylate.  HPCA generated by the biotech process has several advantages for its use in the manufacture of carbamate-based polymers when compared with conventionally produced material, including shortened processing time.
