EU parliament committee votes for 5.5% cap on first-generation biofuels in transport fuel

The European Parliament’s committee for environment, public health, and food safety (ENVI) adopted an opinion in a vote on 11 July, approving the European Commission’s legislative proposal on biofuels and indirect land use change (ILUC), the parliament announced. The draft proposal aims to cap first-generation biofuel production and accelerate the switchover to second-generation biofuels, sourced from seaweed, certain types of waste, and other sources.
