Styron lowers latex capacity on declining demand

Styron Europe (Horgen, Switzerland), a leader in the production of styrene butadiene (SB) latex, says it has reduced SB latex capacity for an indefinite period in Europe. Styron cut production by a combined 70,000 m.t./year at the company’s Hamina, Finland; Rheinmünster, Germany; and Terneuzen, Netherlands, plants. The shift in production is in response to current overcapacity in the European marketplace due to declining demand in the region’s paper-coating market.
