Operating income jumped 41%, to $543 million. The fertilizers unit's operating income rose 37%, to $379 million, on sales up 34%, to $1.1 billion. Industrial products earnings soared 63%, to $87 million, on sales up 18%, to $424 million because of higher selling prices for flame retardants.
