Ems Group Reports Higher First-Quarter Sales

Specialty polymers and chemicals company Ems Group (Herrliberg, Switzerland) reported a 2.5% increase in first-quarter 2012 sales compared with the same period of last year, to SF449 million. Quarterly earnings were not disclosed. Strong sales to the automotive industry in the U.S. and Asia compensated for lower sales in Europe reflecting the weak economy there, Ems says. The company also faced higher raw material costs and a negative impact from the strength of the Swiss currency. Ems expects the challenging conditions to persist this year and says 2012 sales...
