Dow Chemical Earnings Jump 31% on Broad Price and Demand Improvement

Dow Chemical’s first-quarter net income jumped 31%, to $721 million (54 cts/share), on sales up 20%, to $14.7 billion. Earnings were 82 cts/share excluding certain items, including the retirement of debt. Dow beat the consensus of analysts estimates of 67 cts/share because of strong results from the basics business . Dow says it is optimistic that global economic growth will continue....
