Wal-Mart Modifies Preferred Chemicals Program

Wal-Mart’s (Bentonville, AR) preferred chemicals program will focus on developing a hazard screening tool to analyze products for damage to humans and/or the environment, but the retailer does not plan to follow through on its 2006 pledge to encourage suppliers to find alternatives for 20 “chemicals of concern,” says Jack Linard, senior manager/scientific and regulatory affairs for Unilever.
