Survey Finds High Pollution Levels in China's Pearl River

China’s Pearl River, the country’s third longest river, is being heavily polluted by discharges from a string of chemical factories and other industrial installations, according to the findings of a survey by Greenpeace. Inadequate waste water regulation is enabling factories to discharge chemicals including high levels of heavy metals such as beryllium, copper and manganese, and organic chemicals such as brominated flame retardants and bisphenol A, into the river.
