Solvay Cuts Carbon Emissions with Energy-from-Waste Facility

Solvay says it has begun operating a refuse derived fuel (RDF) cogeneration plant at its manufacturing site at Bernburg, Germany. The RDF plant, which generates steam and electricity, is set to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at the site by 350,000 m.t./year—a drop of 63% when compared to the site’s former energy plant, the company says.   The RDF plant uses sodium-bicarbonate-based Neutrec technology, developed by Solvay, for the cleaning of the plant’s gaseous emissions.
