Lawmakers Review Bayer Secrecy Claim Linked to Fatal WV Accident

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s investigations subcommittee held a hearing April 21 on a public disclosure debate concerning the August 2008 Bayer CropScience accident at Institute, WV, which killed two workers. The hearing, “Secrecy in Response to Bayer’s Fatal Chemical Plant Explosion,” stems from Bayer’s assertion that approximately 2,000 pages of investigative documents is sensitive security information (SSI) under the Marine Safety and Transportation Security Act (MTSA), according to CSB chairman John Bresland.
