Jury Awards Plaintiffs $100 Million for Alleged Toxic Releases at BP’s Texas City Site

A federal jury has awarded 10 plaintiffs more than $100 million in a lawsuit against BP as compensation for alleged exposure to toxic emissions at the company’s Texas City, TX facility. The jury awarded $10 million in punitive damages to each plaintiff “after the company repeatedly denied that leaks had occurred on four separate dates in March and April 2007,” according to the law firm Buzbee (Houston) which represented seven of the plaintiffs.
