Acker: Disappointed by breakup of talks. The chemical industry has reacted with dismay to the collapse of negotiations at the World Trade Organization (WTO; Geneva) that aimed to reach a global trade agreement that would have cut tariffs and farm subsidies. Nine days of talks in Geneva ended in failure on July 29, leaving WTO’s Doha Round of trade negotiations “dead in the water,” one source says.
