Tata Chemicals (Mumbai) became the second-largest producer of soda ash, with total capacity of 5.5 million m.t./year, following the $1-billion acquisition last January of General Chemical Industrial Products (GCIP; East Hanover, NJ). It was the second international soda ash acquisition by Tata after the purchase of Brunner Mond (Northwich, U.K.) in early 2006. GCIP is a leading producer with capacity for 2.5 million m.t./year of natural soda ash based on mining and manufacturing facilities at Green River Basin...
