(SQMC), a subsidiary of Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile S.A. (SQM), has reached an agreement to merge with Anagra S.A., a Chilean fertilizer distribution company. The merger creates a larger Chilean fertilizer distribution company that would benefit from cost synergies and efficiency gains. The value of the deal was not disclosed. SQM will be majority shareholder of the new company. SQMC had profits of $16.5 million as of September 31, 2008, or about 4% of SQM’s total profits.
