Sigma-Aldrich Earnings Rise on Higher Volumes

Sigma-Aldrich's earnings for the first-quarter of 2011 totaled $119 million, or 97 cts/share, the company announced today. Income totaled $100 million, or 82 cts/share during the same quarter last year. The company reported $632 million in first-quarter sales, up 10% from $572 million in the year-ago period. Sales and earnings-per-share reached new quarterly highs, Sigma-Aldrich says. The company is on track to meet its target of mid-single digit organic sales growth for 2011, it says.
