Praxair to build ASU at Canadian refinery

Praxair has signed an agreement with North West Redwater Partnership (NWR; Calgary, AB) to build, own, and operate an air separation facility (ASU) at NWR’s refinery near Edmonton, AB. The ASU will produce 2,000 m.t./day of oxygen, nitrogen, and merchant argon and is scheduled for start-up in 2016. Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. NWR’s gasification process will use oxygen to produce hydrogen which will then be used to upgrade bitumen into diesel and other high-value hydrocarbon products, the company says. Initially, the...
