Praxair Earnings Rise 5% on Higher Volumes

Praxair’s first-quarter net income rose 5% year-on-year, to $419 million, on sales up 5%, to $2.8 billion. Earnings totaled $1.38/share, beating analysts’ consensus of $1.36/share, as reported by Thomson Reuters (New York). Higher volumes and an increased ownership stake in Scandinavian joint venture Yara Praxair drove the increases in sales and earnings.   In Praxair’s North America business, quarterly sales rose 6% year-on-year, to $1.4 billion, on higher volumes and higher selling prices.
