Minerals Technologies earnings rise 4%

Minerals Technologies today reported first-quarter net income up 4% year-on-year (YOY), to $18.8 million, on sales down 2%, to $251.3 million. Earnings totaled 53 cts/share, slightly ahead of analysts’ consensus of 51 cts/share, as reported by Thomson Reuters (New York). Foreign exchange rates and fewer selling days in the quarter negatively impacted sales, the company says.   Specialty minerals segment sales were flat YOY, at $167.7 million, while segment operating income was up 12%, to $22.2 million.
