Hercules to pay $2 million penalty for environmental violations

Ashland will pay $2 million in penalties to settle alleged violations of a consent decree with the EPA at the resins disposal superfund site in Jefferson Borough, PA, EPA says. The settlement pertains to Ashland's failure to notify EPA about three uncontrolled releases in 2011 of hazardous substances from the treatment system at the site. Ashland acquired the site and liability with its 2008 acquisition of Hercules.
