Gasoline Demand Drives MTBE Exports

U.S. exports of methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) have been more robust than expected due to a combination of strong demand from European gasoline refiners, and the phaseout of MTBE in the U.S., says Rich Lamberth, v.p./fuels and energy and MTBE at DeWitt & Co. (Houston)at DeWitt & Co. (Houston). DeWitt raised its 2007 MTBE production forecasts for the U.S. from 25,000 bbls/day, to 35,000 bbls/day as a result.
