Fresh Coat of Paint Deals on the Way?

Analysts say they expect a round of consolidation within the paints and coatings sector in the near future, following Akzo Nobel’s agreement earlier this month to sell its pharmaceuticals business to Schering Plough. That deal intensified rumors that the divestment will give Akzo enough cash to buy a paints and coatings company (CW, March 21, p. 21).
